Description of Artwork: The new PSTA passenger bus shelter will offer a pleasant and artistic respite for south Pinellas County bus
travelers in the near future. Designed by artist Mark Fuller, the commissioned Public Art work was recently
installed in Seminole and will be unveiled to the public on Thursday, May 8th. The handsomely-designed bus
shelter is located adjacent to the new Park Street Retail Center (Kohl's, Ross, Total Wine stores) at 4820 Park
Street. Artist Fuller titled the artwork " Gimme Shelter," and the commission was a private/public partnership,
funded by the City of Seminole and Sembler Corporation, with cooperation from PSTA and the Pinellas County
Cultural Affairs Department.
The artist comments that "It has been my intent to create a welcoming, friendly bus shelter that not only meets the
design goals and requirements of the selection committee, but also to provide a unique and memorable visual
experience to users and passers-by alike. This design is meant to evoke a positive response, where users may
feel like they are in a garden house, a comfortable gazebo, or maybe a conservatory. Shadows of the etched
palm fronds are cast upon the floor, and, like the white framing, are visually cooling. " Much of the material the
artist used to create the piece was made from dichroic glass, a glass containing multiple micro-layers of metal
oxides, creating a rainbow of colors which shift and change hue with every movement and change in sunlight.
The shelter is lit at night with LED lighting that is re-charged by daylight, through a roof top solar collector.
The shelter is located at the Park Street Retail Center, 4820 Park Street in Seminole, near the Crossroads Center
and the intersection of Tyrone Boulevard and Park Street.
