Description of Artwork: This artwork focuses on highlighting the importance of the jury system, a system that is a unique feature of the U.S. justice system. Thomas Sayre, project artist, says, "What is unique about the American judicial system is the use and reliance on the judgment rendered by a group of peers." As a metaphor, the artist has created twelve earthen vessels that represent the twelve jury members serving in a court proceeding. Also represented are the two opposing councils (defense and prosecution) depicted through the use of two types of ornamental grasses.
