Description of Artwork: This suspended sculpture, "Coastal Current" is intended to represent the natural forces of Pinellas County. The top layer represents sky, the middle layer waves and water, and the bottom layer shells and sand. This structure is suspended by cables in the EpiCenter lobby and consists of five layers of geometric structure. Layer one is a welded stainless steel frame to which the suspending cables are attached. Bolted on each side of the frame are tripod forms in a geometric array. These rods are powder-coated aluminum. On both sides of the first layer of this geometry, the 2nd layer is bolted. Two of these layers are powder coated in blue and purple; the third layer is copper rod. Within the bands are elements made of metal, glass, stone and shell, intended to convey the sense of the natural elements of Pinellas County.
Brower Hatcher has been creating public sculpture for 30 years. He lives and works in Providence and Block Island, Rhode Island.
