The Arts Teacher Grant program is designed for teachers of the visual arts, music, theater and dance in Pinellas County Schools to enable them to implement school or classroom projects, participate in workshops, seminars, or classes for their professional development, or to bring professional artists into the school or classroom for specific, well-defined projects. Applications with requests for up to $1,000, but no more than $1,000, may be made from September 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010, or until such time funds for the program are expended. (NOTE: Applications to attend the Midwest Band Clinic and Conference may request up to, but no more than $700.)
Applicants must be teachers in the Pinellas County Public School System who have NOT received this grant during the past two school years. (i.e. 2007-2008 or 2008-2009).
Fnded by the “Florida, State of the Arts” license plate program from which $20.00 of each arts plate purchased comes back to Pinellas County for a variety of arts programming (and is tax deductible!), application forms for the 2009 - 2010 school year have been distributed through the Visual and Performing Arts departments of Pinellas County Schools and are available below.
Applications are reviewed by a three-member panel which includes: Cultural Affairs staff, a member of the Pinellas County Cultural Council and an arts education administrator from the field. Every effort is made to let applicants know the panel's decision within two weeks. Funds are administered through the Office of Special Projects for Pinellas County Schools; we are so grateful for their assistance and commitment to the program.

Graphic Tablets a Big Success
at Pinellas Central Elementary
for teacher Jonathan Ogle
From time to time, we will feature an arts teacher and the program for which the grant was written. Jonathan Ogle is a visual arts teacher at Pinellas Central Elementary who wrote a successful grant proposal to purchase Wacom Bamboo graphics tablets to use with all 3rd, 4th and 5th graders at the school.
Mr. Ogle describes the success of the program: “I have posted all 4th and 5th grade art on our school’s Art website. Two of my students had their art accepted at the Creative START show and two more were accepted to the PTA’s County Council Reflections show. I was interviewed by Pat Lusher for an episode of “Digital Learning” on PPS TV 14 about the graphic tablets and my program. I am very appreciative of your grant offering. Because of you, I am a better teacher and I have a better technological aspect to my visual arts program”.
To see more student artwork from Ogle’s program visit the visual arts page at the Pinellas Central website.
